Although sometimes riding on busy roads can be unavoidable, depending on where your horses are kept, riding on busy roads will dramatically increase risk of accident. Where possible, ride on designated bridal paths or rural roads that you know to be quiet. If you do have to ride on busy roads, make sure that your horse is familiar enough with traffic to not pose as a risk. You you often familiarise horses with farm traffic at the yard which can be helpful before heading out on a road to hack.
