Just had a arena surface put on by Equi-Est fantastic service and very reliable, Simon worked on his own mostly and worked very hard and long hours to get it done. So pleased with the finished job highly recommended to anyone wanting a good quality service at an affordable price!! Thank you very very much.

If you are contemplating a surface revamp or a new surface you really need to talk to Simon!! My sand and rubber surface was very adequate but took a lot of maintenance to stop it holding water and tracking up, Simon gave me the confidence to take the plunge and I cannot be happier. No puddles, no squelch even! No tracking up and no looking like my dressage horses have done XC when I come out on a wet day! It now rides like a waxed surface providing sure footing during those diva spooks. As for Simon himself... professional, knowledgeable, friendly, honest and the shock of all in this day and age... he turns up when he says he is going to Make the call, I promise you won't be disappointed!

Simon did our garden for us, he did decking a patio fencing and put stone in. He did an amazing job, he's very hardworking and gets the job done quickly I would definitely recommend him for any garden work and we would have him back for future work

I cannot fault this Company. They resurfaced my stone contaminated arena in February of this year. I had many well-known arena companies in to quote and Equi-Est Ltd was the only one who had a sensible, in budget solution. We are absolutely delighted with the work and cannot recommend them highly enough.

We set the task for Equi- Est to build a sand-school in a small rather muddy paddock area. The area to work in was only 20m x 25m and took some engineering and they pulled it off brilliantly. Equi-Est provided excellent advice and a very can-do attitude to the development, no challenge was too great. We only have limited facilitates and this is going to transform our preparation for our event horses. I cannot recommend them enough!

Simon worked like a Trojan to get it completed and I am totally thrilled with the improvement to the surface. It has gone from seaside beach to solid working surface in two days.

I have recently had a school put in by Equi-Est and am very pleased with the result! Natalie and Simon were helpful and efficient from start to finish and Simon had the school finished in three weeks doing the majority of the work on his own. I went for the silica sand/fibre mix and found the price quoted very reasonable and the finished product is excellent. It rides beautifully. I would be happy to recommend Equi-Est to anyone.

We first used Simon in the autumn of 2013 to create a new patio and stone wall in our garden. We were so pleased with the standard of his work that we used him again to excavate a large parking area from adjacent land. This involved the use of plant machinery and moving tonnes of earth and over 44 tonnes of stone by hand. Following from this Simon was asked to landscape the remainder of the land which included tiering, laying down lawned areas, creating and planting up boarders and creating two circular decking areas.
We found Simon and Natalie to be polite and professional throughout. As with all such projects plans changed during the work, Simon responded to this positively and always discussed different options with us.
We would recommend Equi-Est to others and would be happy to continue using them in the future.

I am very pleased with the Arena Simon Pengelly installed – given we run horse holiday breaks it needed to be able to take a lot of use. Simon is very professional and keen to do a good job. Thank you.

I need to thank you and your team for the fantastic ménage you have built for us. Instead of a muddy or rock hard paddock depending on the time of year we now have a lovely all weather arena. I must say that when the "team" first turned up I was surprised at the young ages but as soon as the work started I could see that you all had wealth of experience.
That, with the enthusiasm you all show and the efforts you put in result in the customer getting a service, second to none. Karen absolutely loves it, Ed, our big bay gelding doesn't, because he now works until he sweats!!. I have even used it, can you believe that.
So thanks again, and we will certainly use and recommend you on every occasion possible.
Look forward to seeing you soon.

Simon Pengelly built our 20x40m ménage from scratch. His knowledge of materials, as well as his understanding of land management meant that we had no qualms leaving him to manage the entire project. He is an incredibly diligent worker and put up with our endless questions cheerfully! We are extremely happy with the end result and recommend his services thoroughly.

I would highly recommend Equi-Est to anybody considering any equestrian construction. It was my dream to have my own menage and last year they finally made it happen!! Having known Simon for a long time I knew it would be completed to the highest standard and he didn't disappoint. They were helpful, informative and a pleasure to deal with from start to finish.
Liz Albon - Ruardean Woodside, Gloucestershire
Equi-Est provided a complete service, from the survey and advising us on the best use of the land, which required a lot of remedial work and the position of the ménage. They were friendly and so helpful that they not only constructed a wonderful menage and paddock fencing, but landscaped the land, removing over 50 tonnes of rubble to provide us with highly usable paddocks. Simon has certainly gone that extra mile, providing in depth expert advice, coupled with top class workmanship and value for money. We were extremely pleased with the end-to-end service and would highly recommend them to anyone needing any equestrian services.

We have experienced Simon Pengelly's skills as a restorer of our equestrian school, a fencer and a general builder of estate facilities. He and his colleagues excel at everything they are asked to do – and always with patience, diligence and thoroughness. They are a small firm and this means they can act promptly and adroitly; they plan well and use the day efficiently, never wasting time with interminable tea breaks or chatter! Indeed their responsiveness is a major reason for using them; we appreciate appointments kept and good two-way communications. All in all, we thoroughly recommend Equi-Est – they provide excellent workmanship at sensible prices.

During the awful weather of 2011/12 (where even my local gallops was closed due to flooding!) I reached the decision that the only way to enjoy consistent riding, was to install my own arena with a truly all weather surface.
Equi-Est stepped up to mark, even helping me through the planning process which proved unproblematic, and with the minimum of mess and fuss, I now have an arena that literally does what it says - gives me the ability to school and ride in all weathers. Thank you Equi-Est for a truly professional job.

During all of the stress of moving my riding and livery stables to new premises last year, Equi-Est came up trumps, by quietly and efficiently converting an old run down barn into an indoor arena which has proved invaluable in the build up of my business.
Thank you Equi-Est for literally getting on with the job in hand in such a professional manor - I could not recommend you more highly!
I had a new school built for me by my landlords and we managed to get hold of a old silica sand surface which needed rejuvenating to make it suitable for international Dressage horses. We were limited on budget and I can across this brilliant company who could offer me a waxed fibre surface for a fraction of the cost of other companies, it was a no brainier. I got in contact with Simon from Equi-Est and he came out and laid the fibre and wax onto our silica sand surface, he was very knowledgeable and efficient. The surface is of fantastic quality and rides beautifully even when through the winter we were without a Harrow for 6 weeks and I was riding up to 6 horses a day on it I couldn't fault it. I'm the recent dry spell we have had it didn't ride deep. My dressage horses love it, I also lunge on it and it doesn't move or cut up. Brilliant surface and couldn't recommend Simon from Equi-Est enough.

Grazing management for horses and ponies is a difficult balance between the desire for grass cover in the winter months, and ensuring that grass intake by ponies during the spring and summer months is restricted. In a typical year, grass grows five times faster in May than it does in September. Traditional management recommends a routine of fertilising, harrowing and rolling paddocks in the spring and autumn. However we recommend you look after it all year round, not just in the spring and autumn!
Is effective because it pulls all the dead grass, or thatch, up from the base of the healthy grass so that air, water and nutrients can more efficiently get to the soil. Where necessary we would harrow for you in the early spring, before strong grass growth gets underway.
Before anything is applied to fields, we would take a soil test to establish the actual need. Soil should be tested to find its pH, which should be 6.5. If the soil is too acidic, we would apply lime to it which would help to restore its natural pH level. Three other elements are needed in balanced proportion for optimum grass growth. These are potash, phosphate and nitrogen. If these elements are not in balance, it may be necessary to apply an organic compound fertiliser to the grazing, which must then be rested until it has all been washed into the soil.
Resting the grassland
The key to good grassland management is to rotate the grazing. Throughout the year, paddocks should be rested to allow the grass to recover for two to three weeks at a time. Ideally, paddocks should be rested for six months but this is rarely feasible. Resting paddocks from autumn through to the mid-summer completely breaks the life cycle of most internal parasites. Even smaller paddocks can be sub-divided with temporary brown or green electric tape to rest them. Riding on grassland can damage it, so it is preferable to exercise elsewhere if possible.
